Prof. K. P. RAY


Prof. K. P. Ray is M. Tech in Microwave Electronics from University of Delhi and PhD from Department of Electrical Engineering IIT, Bombay. Presently he is a Professor in the Dept. of Electronics Engineering, DIAT, DRDO, Pune. Prior to this he was a Programme Director SAMEER Mumbai, wherein he joined SAMEER (TIFR) in 1985 and worked in the areas of RF and microwave systems/components and developed expertise in the design of antenna elements/arrays and high power RF/microwave sources for RADAR and industrial applications. He has successfully executed over 48 projects sponsored by Govt. agencies/industries and developed as many technologies and indigenous systems.

  • IETE-Ram Lal Wadhwa Award 2018 for outstanding seminal contributions in microstrip/planar antennas resulting in extensive publications. He developed new/import-substitute technologies for high power transmitters, antennas, VHF/UHF radars and several microwave systems for agro/industrial/scientific/medical applications resulting in patents and ToTs.

  • IETE-Smt. Ranjana Pal Memorial Award 2014 in recognition of outstanding contributions in the field of RF/Microwave Systems and Components and Antennas.

  • Third Best paper (poster) award in InPAC 2015 held during 21-23 Dec at TIFR Mumbai.

  • Best Paper and presentation award in IET conference 2011.

  • Dr D.Y. Phadke best research/paper award, SAMEER, 2003.

  • Development of Microwave Sterilizer 'ATULYA' to neutralize COVID-19 DIAT/DRDO (2021) 

  • Development of A Medium Range (5-10km) Secured Free Space Optical (FSO) Voice Simplex Communication System For The Mission Critical Wireless Optical Link (2020-2023) for NXXO (Strategic Organization). 

  •  Over the Horizon (OTH) Radar: Long term Training and Report generation for the Feasibility Study on Over The Horizon (OTH) Radar for NXXO (Strategic Organization).

  •  An economical Microwave Disinfection System is being designed and developed for use by pathological labs, dispensaries and small sized hospitals. It is specifically developed for use in rural areas.

  • Performance Analysis of Microwave/RF Absorbers using Agricultural residues with and without addition of suitable Additives, DST (2020-2023)

  • Low cost RF/microwave absorbing materials, based on agricultural residues are being developed under this project. 

  •  Consultancy project: Development of CW, FMCW, Pulsed Doppler Radars, M/s Akademika Pvt. Ltd, Pune (2021-22)



Foreign Deputations

  • UNDP fellowship training and research at GTRI, Atlanta, USA during June – Sep. 1993. The research topic was “Analysis, Modeling and Measurements of Antenna Factor (AF)”.

  • M/s Thomcast, Turgi, Switzerland, by VECC, DAE, Govt. of India, for final testing and certification of high power amplifiers at 35 MHz during Oct.-Nov., 2000, before its shipment to India.

  • Singapore during August 14-20, 2007 to represent SAMEER, Govt. of India for “SALAM INDIA EXPO” organized by Indian High Commission. Also visited Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
